  • Notes
    • Residence 1805. Hi Susan & Riddles. Loudon Co. Va was formed from Fairfax in 1757 was the Loudon Co. George Riddle connected to this one. George Ridley/Riddle who fought against the Shawnee Indians at Point Pleasant as a soldier from Fincastle County, Va, then purchased land in Halifax Co. Va., moved to the Holston River then NC 1780's moved to Nashville, Tn., by 1790, but according to that family information this George first appears on record in Amelia Co. Va 1759, He had sons William and Moses which make me think he is connected to my ggg Moses Ridley/Riddle who also had sons William and Moses. William s/o Moses and above George were both at Point Pleasant, then John Riddle s/o William and this Bazzell Riddle are in Roan Co., TN 1805. The parents of George & Moses are unknown. Do you have any information on the Amelia County Ridly/Riddle?.. Jack (Riddle Mailing List)

Hi gang, can any of you Riddles out there connect, or identify a Bazzell, Bazle, Riddle. I find him on the Surry County, NC Tax list at the time Tory William Riddle was hiding out on John Browns land (Riddle Knob) then Surry County, NC. 1778-81 This Bazzell is the only Riddle I find on a tax list in that neck of the words. (Surry, Wilkes) Mary Hill finds him purchasing land near Tory Col. James Roberts Land in Surry Co., NC. In Book Ancient Ryedales, by G.T Ridlon page 354 Second Generation. John Riddle s/o William and Happy "Removed to Bledsoe County, TN in 1805" (from Hawkins).

That area was still Roane County in 1805, the 1805 Roan County tax list shows #508 a John Riddle # 442 Bazle Riddle, and # 559 a John Brown, but I don't believe this was the same John Brown that owned Riddle Knob in 1781, but I do believe it is the same Bazzell Riddle, could he be an older son of William and Happy who was not identified by Ridlon's sources.
