    • Nina Lynette Abernathy Metcalf, 84, of 57 Sand Hill School Road, Enka, N.C. died Friday, July 9, 1993, in an Asheville hospital.

      A native of Valdese, N.C., she had lived in Buncombe County for the past 50 years. She had been a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church for 47 years. She was the daughter of the late Benjamin Pekney Abernathy and Leota Grant Ferguson Abernathy.

      She was survived by her husband, Lark Jahu Metcalf; four daughters, Bonnie Metcalf Reece of Arden, N.C., Ruby Metcalf Arrington and Carolyn Metcalf Mease, both of Candler, N.C. and Robbie Metcalf Banks of Rockford, Illinois; six sons, Edward Roy Metcalf of Enka, N.C., Robert Metcalf of Waynesville, N.C., the Rev. Ben Metcalf of Gaffney, S.C., Charles Metcalf of Rockford, N.C., Paul Metcalf of Belvedere, Illinois, and Larry Lark Metcalf of Weaverville, N.C.; a brother, Harley Abernathy of Jacksonville, Florida; 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

      Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 12, 1993 at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. The Revs. Bobby Winebarger and Ben Metcalf officiated. Anders-Rice Funeral Home handled arrangements. Burial was in Mount Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.
