  • Notes
    • The son of John & Phoebe Ann (Brown) Walker, in 1860 he was a laborer living in Peach Bottom Township, York County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 6" tall and had brown hair and black eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he first enlisted and mustered into state service in early July 1863 as a private with Co. C, Moson's Independent Cavalry Militia Battalion, and honorably discharged with his company August 21, 1863. He next enlisted and mustered into federal service in Lancaster County August 26, 1864, as an unassigned man with the 3rd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery (152nd Pa). He is also on the roster of Independent Battery F, Pennsylvania Light Artillery, but has no discharge date, suggesting there was a transfer. He was eventually assigned to Battery F with the 3rd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery and honorably discharged with his battery November 9, 1865. Although the Pennsylvania Archives' ARIAS file claims a discharge date of May 29, his compiled military service records disagree. (I will look into this further in the event I made an error.)

He married Nancy M. Barnett September 5, 1867, at Slate Hill, York County, and fathered John Franklin (b. 01/09/69), James Eli (b. 10/27/70), Harry M. (b. 07/27/73), Joseph M. (b. 11/23/75), Howard L. (b. 09/19/78), and Albert M. (b. 03/03/84). Cause of death is listed as "meningitis - 'chronic'" and "traumatic."
